Next meeting

Thursday January 21st  @ 10am.
Whim House @ Longue Vue House and Garden
Demonstrator is  our own Gerry Claude..

Gerry asks everyone to bring sketchbook or pad and some pencils and
eraser.
We will be drawing.  This will be fun for everyone even if you think you
can’t draw.

Gerry Claude  has  always  loved  art   and  the  expression  it  allows.
She  was  the  school  artist through  high  school, studied  art  in
college at  the College  of  William & Mary, Richmond  Professional
Institute.  After  college, she   was  involved  in  the  New Orleans  art
scene  and  was the  president  of both  the  New Orleans  Art
Association  and  Metairie  Art  Association.  Gerry   took  a  hiatus  from
her professional  art  career  and  worked , for  28 years  at  the  U.S.
Post Office.

Having  recently  retired,  she  has  re-immersed   herself   in   her   art.
She says, "I  have  experienced   great  joy  in  resuming  my
professional  art  career.  I look forward to exhibiting,  meeting and
talking with the public about my art.   I am thankful that my art work has
been  so well  accepted.  The  wonderful  city  of  New Orleans  is  full
of  history  and  images  which  serve  as  the  foundations  for  my  pen
& inks  and  watercolors.  I  love  to  take  historic  images  and  make
them  my  own  through  my  interpretation  and  vision.  I  am  inspired
by  the  beauty  and  mystery  in  New Orleans.

Gerry  creates unique  pen  and Ink  and  watercolor  renditions  of
historical  New Orleans  architecture and  life  in  and  around  the
Crescent City. Her  works all  have a  local  flavor  from  flooded Katrina
houses  to  Schwegmanns  bags.  She  strives  for  self-expression
with  the  use  of  details  and  realism.  All  of  her  work  is  original
and   her  list  for  commission  house  portraits  continue  to  grow.

Gerry  has  won  over  100 awards and  has  been  accepted  in  many
juried  exhibitions.  One  of  her favorite  honors  was  when  her
drawing  of  a  tree  hung  in  the  New  Orleans  Museum  of  Art.  Gerry
participated  in  the Streetcar  Art  Project.  Her  design, "Throw me
Something Mister"  was  in  front  of the  Aquarium  and  I-max Theater.
It is now in its permanent home on the corner of City Park Avenue and
Orleans Avenue.. Her second chosen design, "  Jazzy Ride"  is  at
Uptown  Antiques  at  3806 Magazine.

President’s Report
The Happiest of the New Year to everyone.  Trust enough cabbage and
black-eye peas were consumed to assure health and wealth for all of
our members during 2010.  We should take a minute to reflect on how
art played a part in our lives this past year and realize how we were
enriched through our creative efforts.  It’s also time to think about art
goals for 2010; remember, aim high.  Take that extra leap, push your
limits then begin the journey one step at a time.   Not all of us will reach
our goals but all of us will benefit from the exercise of realizing what
direction we would like our art to take and, in the process, formulate a
plan to get us there.  Above all, relax and have fun.  Remember, the
journey is just as important as the destination.
